Range: Rifle Range
Targets: Partially hidden metal silhouettes of varying sizes set at distances from 15 to 90 yds. (closer distances for more realistic hunting ranges will be used this year).
Firearm(s): .22 LR rimfire rifles only. Two classes: Hunter – rifle >= 8 lbs with scope; Unlimited Rifle > 8 lbs with scope. Any type sights allowed but to compete strongly recommend good optics.
Safety: All firearms will be brought to the range unloaded and cased. Competitors and observers will provide their own ear and eye protection. All competitors MUST receive safety /SOP match briefing.
Match Description: Riflemen will test their skills shooting from hunting “field” positions to include standing, kneeling, sitting and prone, with and without shooting supports. Supported field positions include use of slings, posts, rails, bipods, shooting sticks, and off packs or bags (in prone). Older or physically challenged riflemen will be allowed to use alternative positions (i.e. seated in chair or wheelchair with elbow on raised knee (kneeling), elbows on two raised knees (sitting) and seated at bench for prone. Use of support bag under rear leg in kneeling also allowed. All others will be required to shoot from elevated platforms when in kneeling, sitting and prone positions to meet range safety requirements. Multiple relays may be held depending on time and interest. The Match Director will compile scores and determine the winner(s) of the match.
*Significant Work Hours Available: Set-up at 8am, Target re-setters during match, Clean-up ~2:00pm* Persons putting in work hours may also shoot match!
Sight-in Shooting Bench: A shooting bench will be positioned and targets set for use by competitors prior to their relay for sighting in to check scope zeros and make any necessary adjustments. All range safety rules will be followed by rifleman when using the sighting in bench.
Note: Match may be cancelled / rescheduled due to inclement weather. Call the RF&G Range Number (860) 454-0240 or Match Director(s) for the match status if the weather is forecasted to impact the event. A sign will also be posted at the entrance to the range IF the match has been cancelled.
