Pistol Range

Our pistol range features covered shooting and 24 firing positions.

Hours of Operation

The RF&G Pistol range is a 50-yard range. The range is unsupervised for general club member’s usage from 9AM until legal Sunset. (Sunset hour’s charts are posted at the range). There are also supervised events on the range.

Pistol Range Regulations

The following safety rules apply to general firearms use of the range. Safety rules for competition matches differ slightly from the General Safety Rules. Do not use competition match safety rules unless participating in a RF&G sanctioned match.

Unsupervised:

1.  All members are required to call the range phone and sign into the range with the time, date, and membership number.

2.  The range has a light and horn system to indicate the range condition, hot or cold condition. These lights are on whenever there is a cold condition and people are downrange. Guns are on the bench with the action open or cased. Guns may not be handled in any fashion when the range is cold. To make the range cold, sound the horn and turn on the lights. To make the range hot, sound the horn and turn off the lights.

3.  Shooting is done from the firing line only.

4.  Approved targets on the range are the steel targets provided by the club which are permanently mounted and are not movable. The club provides 18” target backers that are mounted on 5’ furring strip legs. Club members may staple any paper targets to these backers and place them in the bases provided by the club at varying distances. The steel targets frames at 25 and 50 Yards are for organized bull’s-eye shoots only.

5.  The range is used for any pistol calibers and for .22 rimfire rifle only

6.  Any cleaning or minor repairs to a firearm must be done on the line, under hot conditions with the muzzle pointed downrange at all times. Up is not a safe direction.

7.  No exploding targets are permitted.

Rifle Range

Our rifle range features covered shooting and targets stands located at 50, 75, &100 yards.  There are also several close range positions for initial sighting in and pistol firing such as black powder firearms.

Rifle Range Hours of Operation

9:00 a.m to legal sunset unless otherwise noted when you call in (currently winter hours are 4 p.m.).  Scheduled tournament events and work parties have priority over time and ranges.

The club also provides fixed target backer at varying distances on the range.

5.  Exploding targets are not allowed on the range.

6.  Centerfire calibers are restricted to .50 caliber maximum on the range.

7.  Tracers are not allowed and steel core ammo may not be used on the steel targets.

8.  Only pistols, rifles, and shotguns are allowed on the rifle range. Pistols should be used on the right side of the range.

9.  Shotgun slugs and black powder rifles are only allowed on the rifle range.

10.  Shotguns using birdshot or buckshot, cannot be shot at the homesote target backers. A special patterning frame is provided for this use. The cardboard/ furring strip target backers may be used.

12.  Prone shooting is not permitted

First Aid kits are available on each of the Ranges next to the Sign- in cabinets and in the Range Shed across the parking lot.

 

General Range Rules for the Pistol and Rifle Ranges 

When a Rockville Fish and Game Range Safety Officer is not present on the Ranges, the Ranges will be self-policed!

  • Range shooting hours are from 9:00 am until legal sunset. A sunset table is posted at each range.
  • The Ranges are open all year round except for Christmas Day, Easter Sunday, scheduled shooting events or as directed by the Board of Directors.
  • Close the gate after you enter and reset the combination to “0000”. If the gate is open for a public event, please leave the gate open.
  • Use Good Judgment and Common Courtesy on the ranges. Attitude is an important Safety Rule.
  • MEMBERSHIP CARDS MUST BE OPENLY DISPLAYED WHILE ON THE RANGES!
  • Call the range phone before coming to the range, and sign in before using the range with your initials, membership number, date, and time that you will be using the range. Remember to sign out when you are finished. Read and understand the posted Range Rules. Check the box on the sign-in sheet indicating you have done so.
  • Carry your unloaded firearms from your vehicle cased or holstered, unloaded, with no magazine. Only open your case or un-holster at the firing line under a “Hot” range condition with the barrel pointed downrange. Legal Concealed Carry is allowed on the Ranges.
  • MEMBERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR SUPERVISING THEIR GUEST AND CHILDREN WHILE ON THE CLUB PROPERTY!
  • Eye and ear protection are absolutely mandatory for shooters and spectators on the Ranges.
  • Use the Horn/ light system to go forward of the firing line. Lights Off = Hot Range, Lights On= Cold Range.
  • Shooters may go forward of the fire ling line under “Cold” range condition. Firearms must be unloaded, with open actions, magazines removed, or the cylinder open. FIREARMS CAN NOT BE HANDLED UNDER COLD CONDITIONS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE!
  • If a cease-fire is called, firing must stop immediately. Everyone must clear and remove the round from the chamber, actions must be open, magazines removed from firearms, and firearms must be placed on the bench. Step away from the bench, and do NOT touch firearms. Wait for further instructions.
  • Do not move the firearms to another firing position with the muzzle behind another person. If you must go behind another shooter, case your gun and then move to the new position.
  • Your projectiles must impact into one of the berms. Know your impact area.
  • Only paper targets stapled to the homesote backers, the cardboard/ furring strip backers or club provided steel targets are allowed for use on the Ranges.
  • ABSOLUTELY NO CROSS RANGE SHOOTING IS ALLOWED! Stand directly in front of your target.
  • Personal targets such as swingers or steel plates are not allowed on the Ranges. Absolutely no shooting at bottles, cans, water jugs, shotgun hulls, clay pigeons etc., is allowed.
  • Class III (full automatics), armor-piercing, tracers are not allowed on either Range. Legally owned suppressors are allowed.
  • Clean up the range when you are finished. Brooms are provided to sweep up spent brass and barrels are provided for any trash, used targets, etc.
  • When there are 5 or more people present on the Ranges, someone should step back and act as a Range Officer. This should be rotated among the people present to allow everyone to shoot.
