Rifle & Pistol Ranges

Range phone number – (860)454-0240.

  • Range shooting hours are from 9:00 AM until legal sunset. A sunset table is posted at each range.
  • The ranges are open year round except for Christmas Day, Easter Sunday, scheduled shooting events, work parties, or as directed by the RF&G Executive Board.

Coming Down to the Range?

You MUST:

  1. Call the range phone. Leave your name, member number and the date and time you will be arriving.
  2. Sign In when you get to the range. Also remember to sign out.
  3. Read and understand the posted range rules. Check for a posting of a notice identifying a new or temporary rule or requirement and comply with it.
  4. Openly display your current membership card while you are on the range.
  5. Carry your unloaded firearms from your vehicle cased or holstered, unloaded, with no magazine. Only open your case or un-holster at the firing line under a “Hot” range condition with the barrel pointed downrange.
  6. Be responsible for supervising your guests and children while on club property!
  7. Wear eye and ear protection. This is mandatory for shooters and spectators on the ranges.
  8. Use the Horn/ light system to go forward of the firing line. Lights Off = Hot Range, Lights On= Cold Range.
    1. Cold Range
      • Firearms must be unloaded, with open actions, magazine removed, or the cylinder open. Firearms cannot be handled under cold conditions under any circumstance!
      • Shooters may go down range to address their targets. All others must remain behind the yellow line.
      • No one is permitted to handle firearms or stand at the firing line while there is a cold range.
    2. Hot Range
      • Shooters must check with others to ensure there is no one down range.
      • When the range is declared “HOT” shooters are permitted to approach the firing line to handle firearms and commence firing.
      • Only shooters are permitted on the firing line.
      • Shooters may move safe guns to and from the firing line only when the range is “HOT.”
  9. All shooters are responsible for their rounds staying within the confines of this range. Shooters may shoot only from the firing line at the target in line with their position. Shooting at items placed on the ground or at targets not posted at the appropriate height on the target frame enables rounds to escape the range.

Pistol Range

The RF&G Pistol range is a 50-yard range which features covered shooting and 24 shooting ports. The range is unsupervised for general club member’s usage from 9AM until legal Sunset. (Sunset hour’s charts are posted at the range). There are also supervised events on the range.

Pistol Range Regulations

Range rules and standard operating procedures are posted at the range. Read and understand the posted range rules. Check for a posting of a notice identifying a new or temporary rule or requirement and comply with it. Safety rules for competition matches differ slightly from the General Safety Rules. Do not use competition match safety rules unless participating in a RF&G sanctioned match.

It is your responsibility to make sure you are adhering to range rules. Failure to do so could result in disciplinary action.

Rifle Range

Our rifle range features covered shooting and targets stands located at 50, 75, & 100 yards. There are also several close range positions for initial sighting in and pistol firing such as black powder firearms. The range is unsupervised for general club member’s usage from 9AM until legal Sunset. (Sunset hour’s charts are posted at the range). There are also supervised events on the range.

First Aid kits are available on each of the Ranges next to the Sign- in cabinets and in the Range Shed across the parking lot.
